HAVE I GOT SOME NEWS!!!!!
I GOT ONE!!!!! I GOT MY FIRST DEER IN OVER TWENTY YEARS!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh you have no idea how HAPPY and EXCITED I am!!! Ok, so my dad and I went out hunting this morning. He wanted to leave like at 5am this morning, but I'm like, No Way! I told him we'd leave at 7am. He didn't like that, but I didn't care. It was my hunt, not his and I decide when we go out! Anyway, we head out there at 7am and we hunted all day long! The whole morning, we drove around all over. The same places we'd gone last night. My mom called this morning and wished she was out there with us, but sadly she had to be back at work today.
Anyway we drove around and dad took me all around. I didn't know the area at all. Dad said I had went back there with him when I was a kid, but I don't remember it at all. I know we did, but since I was just a spud, I'm sure I was off in my own world somewhere and didn't really pay attention to anything. We just road hunted all morning. I went out and did some short walks. We'd get out and walk to the edge of a box canyon and look over the edge. We saw deer Everywhere!!!! Oh man, they were everywhere, but they were all doe's (females). That's my other rule, I never kill females. I forgot to mention that yesterday. On elk hunts, it's either sex. Lots of guys kill cows (female elk) but me, No Way! I will Never kill a female, I don't care if it's allowed. No females and No babies. Anyway, so we saw nothing but doe's everywhere. No buck! We stopped and had lunch about noon. We ate sandwiches and had some laughs. It was so nice being out there hunting once again with my dad. There was way less pressure on us than last time too. Up at Chama, we were walking and pushing ourselves like crazy. Out there today, it was easy. Mostly drove and just some short light walking. It was nice!
Well, after lunch we continued my hunt. Still saw deer all over but no buck. Toward evening time, we chased out some and really thought there were some buck in there, but nada. Dad saw a buck, but it was so small, he wouldn't even call it a buck. Said it wasn't even legal, it had a tiny 2 inch horn on it's head lol. I called it a Spud. Just a lil Spud hahaha. Well it hit 5pm and the sun already started to go down. We were heading out and driving down many roads trying to get back to the one we came in on. I had no idea where we were at, but dad knew. Just as the sun went down, it was still light and you could see, but the sun was down...I saw two good size bucks standing by the road. I told dad to stop. He didn't see them at first, but then he finally did. He kept telling me, Hurry get it get it! I got out of the truck and they just stood there looking at me. Soon as I got out, I loaded up a bullet, then they had turned and began to walk swiftly away. I got off the road...aimed.....*fire* ....I hit it!
I hit it perfectly to where it couldn't run. It was still alive though and it brought me back to when I was a kid, but this time, as an adult, I could handle the situation. It was different too because my scope was totally fine. I was calm and I went close to it and shot once more, putting it down. We waited a few minutes and let it take it's last breath, then we went and got it. It fell very close to the road. It was about the exact same size as the one dad got. Honestly, when they stood by the road, they were big, and he was big, but he also looked like he had a lot of points. I thought he was atleast a 4 point buck, but no he was a fork. Really good size fork though and he had some big horns. Dad was so happy for me and I was very Very proud. Right away, I prayed and thanked God for giving me the opportunity and for giving me the skill to do what I did. God blessed me with a successful hunt and I am so very proud of myself. I got my first kill in over 20 years. I'm very happy to be able to provide meat to my family. It was such a good, great day!!!
I loaded the deer up in back of my dad's truck and we headed home. Called everyone. Lisa was so very happy and excited. My mom was really happy. Everyone congratulated me. My grandpa was happy. My uncle wanted to see it so when we got back into town, we drove over to his house so he could see it. He was happy and now he really wants to go hunting. He was asking my dad to go Trophy Buck hunting with him next year haha. After that, we headed back to my dad's and we hung the deer up in his garage. Tomorrow, we're gonna take it to the same meat processor that he took his deer to. I can't wait, and now all that pressure is off me. My hunt is over, two whole days early ;D
Now, I'm so happy and worn out. I'm going to bed now! Tomorrow will be Awesome. Voting day too. I was telling dad, hey now we can go vote haha. Well, Goodnight!
